The Basics of Lawn Care for Your Commercial Property

For business parks, retail centers and health care campuses, establishing an annual lawn care program is almost a “set it and forget it” way to ensure that your property retains an attractive appearance throughout the growing season. Most lawn care programs consist of anywhere from three to five treatments throughout the course of the season. Healthy, weed-free turf adds to the curb appeal of your commercial property and creates a positive first impression on your visitors.

The beginning of lawn care season in areas around Milwaukee, Mequon, and Pewaukee coincides with National Lawn Care Month each April. Lawn care programs are always individualized to the specific property.

Healthy, weed-free turf adds to the curb appeal of your commercial property and creates a positive first impression on your visitors.

Early Spring

Villani Landshapers lawn care technicians usually head out to commercial properties in early to mid-April to apply the season’s first round of organic-based granular fertilizer and pre-emergent for crab grass control. This round of lawn care is typically wrapped up by mid-May, weather dependent.

Early Summer

Early summer lawn care (falling between mid-May and the 4th of July) addresses broadleaf weed control, fertilization, and additional crabgrass control if necessary. Using an all-natural, slow-release fertilizer will encourage vigorous growth and keep the turf a vibrant green.

Summer

A lawn care visit between mid-June and mid-August focuses on additional fertilization, spot-spraying of summer weeds, and an inspection for insect and disease damage.

Fall

Even though growth tends to slow down by the end of the summer, an early fall lawn care visit is still essential to maintain the health of the turf on your commercial property. This visit takes place anytime from mid-August through October and consists of fertilization, broadleaf weed control if necessary, and inspection for insect and disease damage.

Winterization

Finally, a winterization visit takes place in October or November to apply more granular fertilizer after top growth has slowed down. This application promotes root development, reduces winter injury, and promotes early spring green-up for your property.

In addition to fertilization and weed control, Villani Landshapers lawn care technicians perform other services to keep your lawn and plant material healthy, including:

  • Core aeration of turf (can be performed in either spring or fall)

  • Insect & disease spray for trees and shrubs

  • Spring and fall deep-root fertilization

  • Emerald Ash Borer (EAB) treatments

  • Grub treatments

  • Crab tree sprays

Working with an experienced lawn care team is the best way to ensure that the turf and plant material on  your commercial property in Milwaukee, Mequon or Pewaukee continues to be healthy and thriving season after season.
