Why Fall Clean-Up Is Essential For Your Commercial Property

With summer officially in the books, it's time to start thinking about fall. In our world of landscaping this means employing a wide range of clean up services to restore a commercial property's beauty and prepare it for withstanding the coming winter.

The following is a snapshot of what we do for current clients. Those clients should reach out to their Client Service Representative if there are any questions or specific requests on fall clean-ups.

A thorough fall clean-up protects your commercial and industrial landscape investment during winter's harsh conditions and it sets you up for a strong spring season. That way, once the weather trends warm again, your property will be in optimal condition and require only light clean-up and bed preparation for mulching.

What is typically included in a clean-up or larger full service program?

  • Raking up leaves and composting of grass clippings
  • Updating seasonal decor and plantings to include fall flowers such as mums
  • Weed control
  • Aeration to allow nutrients to reach the grass roots over the winter
  • Fertilizer treatments that ideally include phosphorous to encourage root growth
  • Cutting back perennials
  • Disposing of lawn debris

Why are fall clean-ups important?

Rob Linder, a Field Supervisor with Villani Landshapers who has many years of experience supervising crews, says:

"Fall clean ups are important because they help to remove any dead or unsightly plant materials from the lawn or beds. Typically, we cut back all perennials but can leave some taller grasses up depending on the preference of the client. Also, removing the large amounts of leaves - or leaves in general -  promotes a healthier lawn for next spring. Another reason to remove dead plant material and leaves is because of the common vole damage that will occur- they love places to hide and keep warm with in plant material during the winter months."

As of the mark of the end of growing season leaving some of your perennials up and cutting others back will help get your lawn and landscape ready for the winter.

Some perennials that Villani Landshapers typically leaves up for winter interest include:

  • Sedum
  • Ornamental grasses
  • Coral Belle

Also, by the time the temperatures start to drop, you know that snow and ice are on their way in Wisconsin, which makes cleaning up your lawn completely impossible.

A fall clean-up will give you peace of mind knowing that your property is ready for the change of seasons. However, fall clean ups can be one of the more challenging services to schedule due to the unpredictability of fall weather and not knowing when leaves will fully drop. In the event of early snow in the fall, we’ll come back in the spring to remove any remaining debris.

Villani Landshapers wants to make sure your clean-up gets done this season. These services are typically included with our seasonal maintenance contracts.

Again, please contact your Client Service Representative today to verify that a fall clean-up is on the schedule for your property this year.
